Photography Major
While following the Nevada Career and Technical Education's Program of Study for certification, Las Vegas Academy's Photography major is unique in the Nevada school system.
The LVA Photography major is one of the few programs in the CCSD that still offers traditional darkroom photography coursework. Students in Photo I start the year in the darkroom, to learn the fundamentals of photography. Students learn how to use a SLR camera, and how to process and print black and white film. Students end the year with the basics of Adobe Photoshop and digital photography. When students move into Photo II, they start to learn more about Studio Lighting, and Advanced Photoshop skills. As they progress thru Photo II and III, they take these skills and further them with more advanced assignments, and continue to perfect their techniques. What makes LVA different than most CCSD schools, is that we emphasis strong artistic concepts. Students use the photographic techniques to create conceptual images unlike most other schools in the district. An AP Studio 2D portfolio is usually the final course taken in photography to prepare a portfolio for college entrance.
